Nike is quietly preparing for the metaverse!

“Nike is protecting their trademarks for this new era,” said trademark attorney Josh Gerben.

The apparel giant has taken its first steps into the metaverse. One Oregon-based company has filed several new trademarks this week that indicate its intent to make and sell virtual Nike-branded sneakers and apparel.
According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Nike filed applications on Oct. 27 for “Nike,” the brand’s famous slogan “Just Do It,” and its swoosh logo. The following day, two more application filings for the “Air Jordan,” and “Jumpman” logos were filed. In total, seven different applications have been submitted.

The company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on its future plans. However, people familiar with its strategy said the space is a priority for the brand and consumers can expect to see more virtual rollouts in the months ahead.
“This would very clearly be a nod to this idea of the metaverse,” said Gerben. “They’re filing new applications for the company’s main trademarks, saying that they’re going to launch and start selling virtual clothing, headwear, shoes, in an online and and virtual worlds.”

An indiscernible figure like form of clothing in front of a stark modernist architectural building.

Sarah Jeffries graduated from the MA Painting School at Royal College of Art in 2004.
Her has had four international solo shows: in Italy, London and Belgium, and has been included in numerous group shows in London, Berlin and Italy.

She is currently undertaking PhD research in Visual Arts, at Southampton Solent University, where she is also a visiting lecturer.

Playing with paper effects on portraits. I found these papers at @blick_saintlouis this year.

Acrylic ink on paper, then added textured papers, and then heavy body acrylic. Pulling the image through the textures and allowing the textures to add depth. Each utilizes a pyrolle orange color palette, the same one I’ve been practicing this year with Donna Downey @donnadowneyart I painted a portrait a few months ago with this pyrolle orange and just loved the feelings and emotions it evoked. I tried to pull those emotions again with these 4. I’ve gotten a bit rusty since I can’t be in the studio every day. A stay-wet palette helps when you only have an hour here or there and keeping the paintings small. 😉 These ladies will be matted to 11×14 in 16×20 frames eventually.

Throwback to the live radio on the opening day with interviews and music by Jan Matthé (Risiko Press) and Stine Sampers. We Are Various, an online community radio station currently transmitting from inside De Studio & Het Bos in Antwerp, aired the conversations with artists and writers through three chapters from the Music Kiosk in the Albert Park. The Retina Eco awards, which support projects that use technology to create sustainability, were presented yesterday. This year I have made pieces for them from the series “Proliferations”, made with plastic that builds natural forms with the material that can destroy them. It is a luxury to be part of these initiatives that give visibility to transversal projects with objectives that go beyond the purely business. Bis zum 30. Sep 2023 bei KUNST&CO

In ihrer Ausstellung DISAPPEARED stellt die Künstlerin Lisa Hoffmann die Wahrnehmung alles Verschwundenen aus Krisen und Katastrophen in den Fokus. Großformatige, farbenstarke Bilder aus der seit 2019 entstandenen Werkgruppe ATLAS OF THE ESSENCE konfrontieren die Besucher mit dem Orientierungsverlust. Wir wollen uns orten und blicken hinein in eine konturenlose Feuerbrunst oder in die bildliche Hölle von Dürren und Erdbeben. Das alles ist nicht fremd, aber wir stehen verloren davor und suchen nach einem Zugang, nach Anhaltspunkten, Formen, die uns bekannt sind. Was war hier mal? Wo ist das? Aus der Irritation über Fragmente und Bruchstücke entsteht langsam ein (inneres Ab-) Bild, das die Kurzlebigkeit regulärer Bilder überdauert. Dieser Zugang ist nicht nur ein Zugang zu dem Ereignis, sondern auch zu der eigenen Wahrnehmung.  
 
Die 135 x 200 cm großen Textilprints von ATLAS OF THE ESSENCE wurden auf ökologisch nachhaltigem Stoff aus Holzfasern gedruckt.

THE DISAPPEARED ist eine ca. 5 x 7 m große Installation aus verbrannten Ast- und Stammgabeln. Diese erst im Frühsommer 2023 fertiggestellte Arbeit ist eine Annäherung an die Spuren von Verschwundenem. Lücken und Leere werden durch die Freiräume zwischen den Holzstämmen plastisch deutlich, aber das Verschwundene ist weder hier noch dort. Aus der Entfernung lassen die Skulpturen freie Interpretationen in Richtung Natur- und Klimakatastrophe wie auch Krieg und Konflikte zu. Und werden so über die visuelle Wahrnehmung hinausgehend zum Ausdruck alles Verschwundenen.
